Mountain Peaks & Engagement Dreams: B&M’s Sunrise Engagement Session at Schwabacher Landing

It’s not just about the “I do’s” or the first kiss—it’s about the quiet moments in between.

I don’t just want to show up with a camera; I want to show up for you.

There is something deeply romantic about waking up before dawn to catch the sunrise over the Grand Teton Mountains. The world is still quiet, still sleeping. The air is crisp and cool. And you are standing at the edge of a pristine alpine lake, watching the first rays of sun paint the jagged peaks in shades of rose gold and amber. This is the kind of moment that makes you feel like you are the only two people on earth.

This was the setting for an unforgettable engagement session with Braxton & Morgan, a couple who had just gotten engaged on an epic national park road trip and wanted to end their adventure with an intimate sunrise session at one of the Tetons’ most iconic locations.

B&M had spent the past several days driving through some of the most beautiful national parks in the country. Starting in Wisconsin, they made their way through some of the most epic locations in America. And after an insane hike in Glacier National Park, Braxton asked Morgan to marry him.

They wanted to end their road trip with an engagement session that captured not just their love for each other, but their shared love for wild, beautiful places. They wanted to celebrate their engagement in the shadow of the Grand Tetons, at sunrise, with nothing but the mountains as their witness.

We met at 6:00am, with the sun creeping out above the mountains, casting a gorgeous pink hue on the Tetons. The parking area at Schwabacher Landing was packed with hundreds of cars, all hoping to catch the same sunrise.

As we made our way through the crowd for a private spot, we talked about their road trip, about the proposal, about their dreams for the future. Braxton & Morgan held each other close, watching the sky slowly shift from deep purple to soft pink to warm gold.

The entire landscape transformed in an instant. The jagged peaks of the Grand Tetons, the Cathedral Group, and Mount Moran suddenly glowed with warm, golden light. The pristine water of Schwabacher Lake became a mirror, reflecting the mountains and the sky in perfect clarity. The entire scene felt almost unreal, like we had stepped into a painting.

B&M stood at the edge of the lake, her hand in his, both of them looking out at the mountains as the sun continued to rise. We captured portraits of them embracing, laughing, and simply standing together in the quiet wonder of the moment. The light was absolutely perfect, soft and warm and golden, exactly what we had hoped for.

As the sun climbed higher and the valley began to wake up, we moved to different locations around the lake. We found a beautiful rocky outcrop where they could sit together, the mountains rising dramatically behind them. We captured them walking along the shoreline, their silhouettes backlit by the golden morning light. We captured quiet, intimate moments where they simply looked at each other, their love for each other evident in every glance.

By the time we finished, the sun was fully above the mountains, the valley was coming alive with the sounds of birds and the gentle lapping of water against the shore.

This is what engagement sessions can be when you step outside the traditional mold. They can be an adventure. They can be a celebration of your shared love for wild, beautiful places. They can be a moment to feel fully, unapologetically alive together as you reflect on the journey that brought you to this moment and dream about the adventures ahead.

B&M’s road trip didn’t end with their engagement session at Schwabacher Landing. It was just another chapter in a love story that is defined by adventure, by spontaneity, and by a deep commitment to celebrating life in the most beautiful places on earth.

If you are dreaming of an engagement session that captures your love story and your shared spirit of adventure, Grand Teton National Park is calling. Let us create something unforgettable together.

I’m a wedding and elopement photographer and a wedding planner, which means I get to combine my love for storytelling and organization into something truly magical. I started photography because I’m obsessed with love—messy, adventurous, unapologetic love—and the way it shows up in every little moment.

When I’m not behind the camera or coordinating details, you can find me soaking up life’s little joys - hiking to the best views, indulging in way too much coffee, or dreaming up the next big adventure (Maui, anyone?)
